ITM was the well known acronym then, for ‘Institute Technology MARA’ . ITM began a branch- life status in Melaka on the 12th day of August 1984. The building occupied for this educational purpose was the one formerly occupied by ‘Inistitut Kemahiran MARA’
The main building, comprising the administrative block, was a two storey building with staircase access. The library and the classroom shared one common but separate block away from the administrative block. The air –conditioned library occupied the first floor while the classrooms were situated on the ground and second floors of the building. The classrooms only had fans at that time. The ground floor also had a multi-purpose hall which was about the size of three classrooms and air-conditioned. Many special events took place here including official openings of events
This branch level Institute of the main iTM, started off with five lecturers and a student population of only 158.
